$165,000 Sponsorship Presented for Lenny Peters Cup & North Carolina Rowing Championships in High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. — Media gathered Tuesday outside the offices of the Lenny Peters Foundation as a $165,000 sponsorship check was presented to Triad United Rowing coach and event director Gene Kininmonth to support the upcoming Lenny Peters Cup & North Carolina Rowing Championships, presented by Bethany Medical.

The sponsorship from the Lenny Peters Foundation and Bethany Medical will underwrite the international rowing regatta scheduled for Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Festival Park on Oak Hollow Lake in High Point.

The event is expected to bring more than 1,000 athletes and several thousand spectators to the Triad while generating an estimated $2 million in local economic impact for High Point and surrounding communities.

“This annual event brings many of the world’s top rowers to the city of High Point, and we’re excited for spectators to watch this world-class field compete at Oak Hollow Lake,” said Gene Kininmonth, race director for the regatta.

International Competition Comes to High Point

The Lenny Peters Cup features a Team USA vs. World Team format modeled after the Ryder Cup in golf. Top American scullers will compete head-to-head against Olympic rowers representing several countries.

In addition to the international match races, the regatta will include approximately 500 boat entries competing throughout the day across:

  • Collegiate events

  • High school competitions involving more than 30 programs from multiple states

  • Masters rowing races

The regatta creates a full day of racing and festival-style activity at Oak Hollow Lake.

Festival Atmosphere for Spectators

Beyond the racing, spectators will enjoy a lively regatta environment including:

  • Food trucks throughout the venue

  • The Duck Bar beer garden

  • A Best-in-Show dog competition

  • Open spectator viewing along the lake

Dogs are welcome at the event provided they are leashed and non-aggressive.

VIP Regatta Lounge

For spectators seeking a premium experience, the VIP Regatta Lounge opens at 8 a.m. on race day and offers:

  • Coffee and pastries

  • Hot lunch service

  • Champagne or a signature cocktail

  • One of the best viewing locations for the races

VIP tickets are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis via the event website.
