Team USA’s Isa Darvin Set to Challenge Olympic Medalist Magdalena Lobnig at 2026 Lenny Peters Cup

HIGH POINT, NC – A premier technical battle has been confirmed for the opening round of the 2026 Lenny Peters Cup, as American standout Isa Darvin prepares to face one of the world’s most decorated scullers, Austria’s Magdalena Lobnig.

The head-to-head matchup, scheduled for April 18 on Oak Hollow Lake, brings together two athletes at different but equally compelling stages of their elite careers. For Darvin, a rising force in the USRowing Senior National Team, the race is a high-stakes opportunity to test her speed against a three-time Olympian and Tokyo 2020 Bronze Medalist.

The Matchup: Technical Precision vs. Power

• Isa Darvin (USA): A University of Wisconsin alumna and two-time National Team member, Darvin’s trajectory has been one of consistent ascent. After a career-best 8th-place finish at the 2025 World Championships in Shanghai, she enters this season with the momentum of a veteran.

• Magdalena Lobnig (World Team): Representing Austria, Lobnig is a pillar of the international rowing community. With an Olympic Bronze medal, multiple World Championship podiums, and a top-10 finish in Paris 2024, she is widely regarded as one of the most efficient single scullers in the sport today.

Both rowers have proven they can win at the Lenny Peters Cup in the past. At the 2025 Lenny Peters Cup Isa Darvin won her first round match up, beating Germany's Tabea Schendekehl. 

Magdalena Lobnig also won her first round race in 2025, edging out Team USA's Azja Czajkowski.

Madison Roots: From West High to the World Stage

Darvin’s journey is deeply rooted in Madison, Wisconsin, where she attended West High School. Her path from a Big Ten walk-on to a 6-foot-tall powerhouse on the National Team has made her a prominent figure in the Midwest rowing community. After securing gold at the Pan American Games and a top-tier finish in Shanghai last year, Darvin arrives in High Point at the peak of her competitive form.

Lobnig is renowned for her clinical rhythm and ability to maintain a grueling pace through the middle 1,000 meters. However, Darvin’s background in team boats and her aggressive sprinting style provide a contrast that could disrupt the tempo in the unique match-race format of the Lenny Peters Cup.
