Team USA Set to Race World Olympians for the Lenny Peters Cup on April 18

HIGH POINT, NC: Team USA returns to Oak Hollow Lake on April 18 to race a new World Dream Team for the Lenny Peters Cup.

Now the biggest international rowing event in North Carolina, the Lenny Peters Cup will take place alongside the Bethany Medical North Carolina rowing Championships, which attracts over 1,000 rowers from surrounding states.

Named after the legendary High Point physician, business entrepreneur, and philanthropist, the Lenny Peters Cup is a testament to the city’s rapidly increasing rowing heritage.

In 2025, the World Dream Team of Olympic rowers edged out Team USA by just one foot in the final deciding boat race to win the Lenny Peters Cup.

It was a dramatic conclusion to a remarkable day of racing that saw Team USA take a sizeable lead on points early in the day only to have the World Team begin a massive comeback to win in the final strokes of the last race.

"The Lenny Peters Cup is now an event that is captivating an audience around the world," says race director Gene Kininmonth. "This event is shining a spotlight on the best scullers in the USA and from the Olympics and is a wonderful opportunity for locals to witness firsthand at Festival Park."

The event is being sponsored by a $165,000 contribution by the Lenny Peters Foundation. The race format sees 8 rowers (4 men & 4 women) from around the world compete against 8 rowers from the United States in a match race format for points played out in three boat classes: Single Sculls, Quadruple Sculls, and Mixed Quadruple Sculls.

There are 18 points on offer over the three rounds of racing.

Round One will see four USA athletes (2 men and 2 women) race a world team athlete in single sculls over the Olympic distance of 1,500 meters with each winner earning one point for their team. In Round Two, USA will race the World Team in Men's & Women's Double Sculls over 1,500m, with the winning crews each winning 2 points. In Round Three, the teams will each race two crews head to head in Mixed Quadruple Sculls. The winners will receive 3 points. In the case of a tie, the winner of the second Mixed Quad race will determine the winner of the Lenny Peters Cup.
